Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation & Sterilization: Thoroughly prepare the operating room by selecting, sterilizing, and organizing all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies based on the specific surgical procedure.
  2. Aseptic Technique: Maintain a strict sterile field throughout the surgical procedure, adhering to all infection control policies and procedures to protect patients from infection.
  3. Surgical Assistance: Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance during procedures, including passing instruments, holding retractors, and managing specimens.
  4. Patient Care & Comfort: Provide a comforting and supportive presence for patients before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their privacy and dignity are respected.
  5. Equipment Management: Maintain and troubleshoot surgical equipment, documenting any maintenance or repair needs.
  6. Teamwork & Communication: Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, communicating clearly and respectfully to ensure seamless teamwork.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to identify opportunities to enhance patient safety and improve surgical processes.
  8. Mentorship: Serve as a preceptor and role model for new Surgical Technicians and students, sharing your knowledge and expertise.
  9. Professional Development: Collaborate with licensed staff to identify your own career and educational goals.
  10. Compliance: Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, safety regulations, and patient rights guidelines.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 1 year of operating room experience in an acute care setting required.
  2. High School graduate or equivalent.
  3. Successful completion of an accredited/approved Surgical Technician program and/or equivalent combination of education/experience required.
  4. Current AHA BLS card required.
  5. Current Fire Safety card required.

This position is represented by SEIU UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Pay Range: $31.83 - $39.78 /hour
