Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City, IA, is seeking a part-time Surgical Technologist-in-training to join our team. The role supports the circulating nurse, prepares the OR, and maintains sterility under supervision, with a rotating shift schedule.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Surgical Technologist program and within six months of graduation. Workplace benefits start on day one, with opportunities for board fee reimbursement and ongoing skill development.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Surgical Technologist program.
• Must be within the last 6 months of the Surgical Tech program to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care.
• Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice.
• Assists in setting up rooms.
• Secures safe transport of the patient if needed.
• Confirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources.
• Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager.
• Identifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards.
• Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department.
• Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties.
