Job summary

St. Tammany Health System in Covington, LA, is seeking a Surgical Technologist/LPN to assist the surgical team under RN supervision. You will pass instruments, handle sterile equipment, and support the surgeon to ensure patient safety and efficient procedures.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited School of Surgical Technology, OR experience (orthopedic preferred), and BLS certification. Certification in Surgical Technology is preferred.

Qualifications

• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to support safe and efficient procedures.
• Perform tasks under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to ensure patient safety.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

WORK SHIFT

Monday-Thursday 6:30a-5:00p. Friday shift time may flex due to volume. No call, no weekends, no holidays.

JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist/LPN performs procedures, within their scope of practice, which render the safest and most effective service to the patient and surgeon. The Surgical Technologist anticipates the needs of the surgical team, proficiently handling and passing instruments, sutures, sponges and all other necessary sterile equipment as required.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.

At least 1-year surgical tech experience in an Operating room with orthopedic specialty experience preferred.

Surgical Technology certification preferred.

Good communication and decision-making skills.

Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Constant (67%-100%) - reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing

Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching

Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc), crawling
