Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to prepare, inspect, and organize surgical instruments and supplies in accordance with departmental standards. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience, be capable of scrubbing in multiple specialties, and hold a current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program.
• Minimum two years of Surgical Technician experience.
• Ability to scrub in multiple surgical specialties/service lines.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Surgical Technician certification from the NBSTSA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, inspect, and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to departmental standards and procedure requirements.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to infection prevention and aseptic techniques.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team by providing instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
• Assist surgeons and perioperative staff during procedures, including surgical counts, specimen handling, patient positioning, draping, dressings, and related intraoperative support activities.
• Ensure the proper care, handling, and processing of surgical instruments and equipment before, during, and after procedures.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare team members to promote patient safety and positive surgical outcomes.
• Participate in ongoing education, competency validation, and professional development activities.

• Establish and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to infection prevention and aseptic techniques.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team by providing instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
• Assist surgeons and perioperative staff during procedures, including surgical counts, specimen handling, patient positioning, draping, dressings, and related intraoperative support activities.
• Ensure the proper care, handling, and processing of surgical instruments and equipment before, during, and after procedures.

Salary Range: $50.30/hr

Qualifications

We’re seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated professional with:

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician program, required.
• Minimum two (2) years of Surgical Technician experience, required.
• Ability to scrub in multiple surgical specialties/service lines, required.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, required.
• Surgical Technician certification from the NBSTSA, preferred.
• Knowledge of universal precautions, aseptic technique, operating room sanitation, and applicable departmental policies and procedures.
• Working knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, medical terminology, surgical instrumentation, and operating room equipment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, prioritize responsibilities, recognize emergencies, and respond appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate attention to detail, maintain accuracy, safely handle surgical equipment, and perform the physical requirements of the role, including prolonged standing, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
