Job summary

UAB Medicine, within UAB St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, seeks a surgical technologist to facilitate safe, efficient procedures in the OR.

Responsibilities include preparing the operating suite, passing instruments, assisting with patient positioning and draping, maintaining instrument counts, and aiding hemostasis during surgery. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a surgical technologist program (or 4 years of related experience); BLS is preferred (AHA

Qualifications

• BLS Provider preferred; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.
