Job Summary:

Your Role: The Surgical Technologist II facilitates patient care by assisting physicians/nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures by creating and maintaining a sterile field and providing the instruments and supplies required by the surgeons in a sterile manner according to established plans for patient care with occasional guidance. The Surgical Technologist II is able to perform competently most of the cases in a given service/shift. Certification with either NBSTSA or NCCT is required at the time of hire.

Position Shift: Full Time: Monday - Friday, 6:45am – 5:15pm (4x10s), Late Stay/No Call, No Weekends/No Holidays

About this location: The Vanderbilt Surgery Center (VSC) is a low acuity, offsite ambulatory outpatient surgery center specializing in orthopedics, with four surgical suites. Our team of 29 staff members, including Patient Service Representatives, RNs, STs, FAs, and Central Sterile Techs, work together safely and efficiently, prioritizing patient care. Staff typically work 10-to-12-hour shifts, staying until all surgeries are completed and patients are safely discharged.

Sign-on Bonus: This full-time position offers a $20,000 (taxable) bonus paid over 24 months. The bonus is not applicable to current or recent VUMC staff (within 12 months).

Relocation Bonus: Up to $10,000 (taxable), paid within 45 days of hire, based on relocation mileage. Must relocate from more than 100 miles. Not applicable to current or recent VUMC staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the surgeon before, during, and after procedures.
• Set up, perform, and clean up surgical procedures as a circulator and scrub tech.
• Perform counts of sharps, sponges, and instruments according to policy.
• Apply principles of Asepsis to maintain a sterile environment.
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program or successful completion of a surgical assistant training program during military service.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Certification from one of the following: NBSTSA CST or NCCT TSC. Current employees employed by VUMC prior to 2010 or graduates of armed forces surgical training are exempt from certification.

Technical Capabilities: Knowledge of surgical equipment, procedures, operating room care, environmental sterility, inventory management, and surgical technology, with varying levels of proficiency.
