Job summary

Children's Perioperative Services at UMMC seeks a Surgical Tech I to prepare the operating room for procedures, assist the surgical team, and ensure sterilization and infection control standards are met. The role may include call duties as needed.

The candidate should have graduated from an accredited surgical technology program and demonstrates strong communication and teamwork within a fast-paced surgical setting. This is a full-time, on-site position at the Main Campus Jackson.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
• Knowledge of UMMC infection control and regulatory sterilization standards.
• Verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal collaboration with the surgical team.

Responsibilities

• Maintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards.
• Provides basic surgical support including room set up, sterile field management, handling of specimen and instruments, and room turnover.
• Assesses the equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensures availability.
• Ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
• Follows infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements in daily practice to ensure a safe work environment.
• Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
