Job summary

UMMC in Jackson, MS, invites applications for Surgical Tech I-PRN. The role supports the operating room by preparing equipment and assisting the surgical team to ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures.

The incumbent will sterilize instruments, maintain sterile fields, and follow infection control and regulatory standards to support high‑quality care. This is a rotating, hourly, grant-funded position with eligibility for health insurance.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Knowledge of infection control and regulatory sterilization standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the surgical team.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.

Job description

• Maintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with UMMC and regulatory standards.
• Provides basic surgical support including room set up, sterile field management, handling of specimen and instruments, and room turnover.
• Assesses the equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensures availability.
• Ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
• Follows infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements in the daily practice in order to assure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.
• Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
