Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Surgical Tech I to support operating room readiness and peri-operative care. You will work with surgeons and nurses to ensure a safe, efficient environment for diverse patient populations across neonates to seniors.

Positions are full-time with day, evening, night shifts available. Requirements include a High School diploma and sterile technique knowledge; BLS and CST preferred. Growth and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • BLS, CST and other relevant licenses are preferred.
  • 0–1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist or in a similar role required.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
  • Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, assist with positioning and comfort.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures.
  • Follow proper sterilization techniques to maintain sterility.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures and counts.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and staff.
  • Assist in preparing the surgical site and manage drains/catheters as directed.

Surgical Tech I- Full Time *** $10,000 Sign-On Bonus *** (Current MGB Surgical Techs NOT Eligible)

Essential Functions
  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
  • Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.
  • Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.
  • Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
  • Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
Qualifications

Licenses and Credentials
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] -preferred
  • Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) - preferred
  • Dental Assistant [State License] - preferred
  • Medical Technician [New Hampshire License] - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy - preferred
Work Experience
  • Experience as a Surgical Technologist I or in a similar role 0-1 year required
  • One (1) year experience as Surgical Technologist in a similar setting 1-2 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
  • Familiarity with surgical equipment and technology used in the operating room.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle stressful situations during surgeries.
  • Understanding of infection control protocols and patient safety measures.
