Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Surgical Technician program or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.
• One year Surgical Technician experience in a surgery setting.
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery – Certified (NCCT).
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Assist with room turnovers and maintain sterile fields.
• Assist surgeons at the surgical field during procedures.
• Prepare and set up operating room with instruments and supplies.
• Care for instrumentation to prevent damage and ensure readiness.
• Review patient and procedure requirements to determine setup needs.
• Communicate with the procedural team for thorough preparedness.
• Pull cases prior to procedures and restock/clean operating rooms as needed.
• Serve as a preceptor to students and orient new staff.

Position Summary

This position performs a variety of technical functions and duties to provide for availability of supplies and equipment and maintains sterile field for operating procedures.

Position Duties

• Assists to perform room turnovers in accordance with established procedure and department requirements/standards as part of procedural team.
• Participates in a variety of surgical cases by assisting surgeons at the surgical field.
• Prepares and sets up operating room for surgical procedures and organizes sterile areas, instruments, and equipment in accordance with established procedure, department, and physician requirements and standards.
• Handles and cares for specific instrumentation to prevent breakage and damage.
• Reviews requirements of patient, physician, and procedure idiosyncrasies to assess set up, equipment, and supply needs.
• Communicates with procedural team to provide for thorough preparedness.
• Seeks guidance from appropriate source for performing or assisting with procedures as needed based on level of personal expertise.
• Handles and labels all specimens.
• Suggests and assists update and maintain physician preference cards.
• Pulls cases prior to procedure. (Ambulatory Surgery Center).
• Participates in re-stocking, re-supplying, and cleaning of all operating rooms, specialty carts, and sterile core to provide for efficient, effective, and safe department operations.
• Serves as preceptor to students and orients regarding functions, duties, and role of Surgical Technician.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Required

• Completion of a Surgical Technician program or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.

Experience

• One year Surgical Technician experience in a surgery setting.

Preferred

• Experience with pediatric patient populations.

Additional Requirements

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Tech in Surgery – Certified from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
