Phoenix Children's Hospital, Inc. is seeking a clinical nurse for the Plastic/Hand Surgery clinic.

The role will be primarily at the Thomas campus with travel to East Valley and Scottsdale locations. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of clinical experience, can develop detailed surgical care plans, and will meet with patients to discuss plans, create orders, and provide follow-up care in a fast-paced clinic setting beside the surgeon.

Qualifications

  • ADN/BSN/Diploma required.
  • Current AZ RN license or compact state license before start date.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • PALS/PEARS preferred within 90 days for select departments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nursing assessments across age and condition; develop nursing plan of care.
  • Coordinate care and educate patients on surgery plans and follow-up.
  • Triages patient and family calls regarding surgery and education on procedures.
  • Monitor safety and documentation; ensure high-quality patient care and confidentiality.
  • Mentor students and new employees; contribute to clinical instruction.

Education

Two year ADN in nursing, or four year BSN in nursing, or Diploma Nursing degree

Job description

Posting Note: Phoenix Children's is hiring a clinical nurse for the Plastic/Hand Surgery clinic. This role will be mainly at our Thomas campus, but will involve travel to our East Valley and Scottsdale locations. The ideal nurse will have a minimum of 2 – 3 years’ clinical experience working with surgeons, have outstanding multitasking abilities, and must be able to develop/create detailed surgical care plans. Incumbent will be meeting with patients to discuss surgery plans, creating orders, and detailed follow up and care plans for patients. This role is very fast paced in meeting with the patients in clinic with the surgeon, and triaging calls from patients/families to discuss surgery, patient education on the procedure and follow up calls after surgery. This position is M - F, 8 AM - 4 PM, NO holidays, NO weekends and NO call!

This position, in collaboration with the healthcare team, patient, and family, coordinates and promotes patient health utilizing evidence-based practice in the delivery of professional nursing care across the care continuum. This position advocates for the patient and family adhering to nursing and medical plans of care, regulatory standards, and organizational values.

Position Duties
  • Utilizes multiple platforms to complete a nursing assessment of patients and their families consistent with age and condition, including physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational factors. Synthesizes and analyzes data to determine nursing diagnoses, prioritize needs, and develop a nursing plan of care.
  • Implements plans of care in accordance with regulatory and organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines. Provides health education related to health promotion and the management of acute and chronic health conditions including skills required to maintain and restore health. Coordinates care and manages care transitions within the organization and the community, working collaboratively with the healthcare team, patient, and family to promote positive outcomes and prevent complications. Advocates for patients and families, offering support and guidance related to navigating ambulatory services and processes, resource management, and community-based services. Partners with patients and families to establish realistic goals and expectations.
  • Continually evaluates patient understanding and response to the plan of care. Shares observations and assessment outcomes with healthcare team, patient, and family to ensure timely communication and understanding of health status, progress, and ongoing needs. Modifies nursing diagnoses and plan of care based on re-evaluation. Documents in the medical record.
  • Facilitates the delivery of safe patient care, monitoring quality and regulatory indicators, and working with leaders to identify process improvement opportunities. Supervises patient care activities of assigned team members and delegates activities appropriate to knowledge, skill, and competency. Provides timely feedback and review of care delivery to ensure maintenance of patient safety, infection control procedures, therapeutic environment, and team members performance level, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable medication, storage, and documentation standards, regulations, and requirements.
  • Fosters a positive learning environment by modeling best practices and patient-centered care while providing guidance, training, and support to students and new employees through mentorship, clinical instruction, and knowledge sharing.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications

Please review the following qualifications and specify whether you meet each of the requirements listed.

Education
  • Two year (ADN) degree in nursing, a four year degree (BSN) in nursing, or a Diploma Nursing degree. (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in an RN to BSN program. (Preferred)
Experience
  • Pediatric experience. (Preferred)
Additional Requirements
  • Current State of Arizona RN license or an RN license from a compact state with multistate privileges or the ability to establish licensure according to Arizona law prior to start date. (Required)
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within 90 days of entry into the position for select departments. (Preferred)
