Job summary

Hudson Regional Health seeks a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. Under supervision, you will assist surgeons, prepare for procedures, and maintain aseptic technique with熟 instruments and OR supplies.

You must hold a CST certification (or obtain within 90 days) and BLS. The role emphasizes infection control, safety, and rapid readiness for cases in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program (CAAHEP or ABHES).
• BLS certification by American Heart Association.
• Surgical Technician Certification (CST); must be certified within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery under direct supervision.
• Prepare for surgery in an acceptable time frame.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique and knowledge of procedure, instruments, supplies and equipment.
• Respond to intra-operative emergencies and assist with CPR when needed.
• Ensure the OR is stocked and ready for each case; maintain equipment and cleanliness.
• Follow policies on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials and uphold safety standards.

Job description

• Directly accountable for preventing hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff
• Under direct supervision, assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs assigned selected duties.
• Prepares for surgery in an acceptable time frame.
• Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition.
• Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed and a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed.
• Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that may arise intra-operatively & assists with CPR of patient during cardiac arrest.
• Utilize equipment properly, according to manufacturer's recommendation and adhering to OR protocols. Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case.
• Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
• Follows the hospital's policy and procedures on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
• Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or Equivalency Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by: CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.

CREDENTIALS + QUALIFICATIONS:

BLS by approved by AHA - American Heart Association

Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting *Must be certified within 90 days of employment

Compensation: This will be based on years of experience and the Union contract.
