Description

The Surgical Sterile Processing Tech 2 is responsible for maintaining high standards in decontamination, assembly, inspection, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and Ancillary Departments. This role involves working closely with the customer to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts where applicable. The technician ensures consistency and continuous product flow between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing, while delivering above-average customer service. In the absence of a supervisor or manager, they make departmental decisions by coordinating work assignments and serve as a resource person during duties. They identify and report situations requiring intervention to the supervisor or manager. The role includes serving as a clinical preceptor for new staff and OR/SPD technician students, and acting as a resource in all Sterile Processing specialty areas. All duties are performed in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Technical Program in Surgical Technology or Sterile Processing training program.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Two (2) years of prior sterile processing experience in a clinical setting.
