Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System—Olathe Hospital is seeking a Surgical Services Support Tech (PRN, part-time) to ensure timely access to supplies and instrumentation for the perioperative team, assist with patient transfers, and provide customer-focused service to staff and patients.

Responsibilities include stocking and organizing inventory, communicating needs to the care team, and supporting room decontamination and case preparation, with adherence to safety guidelines and quality

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• BLS/BCLS certification to be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Respirator Fit Test required upon hire.
• Strong communication with the health care team is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient transfers and communicates with patients using high service standards.
• Communicates with the health care team regarding room needs and follow-up.
• Ensures emergency stock and specialty stock are adequately stocked and accessible.
• Maintains high level of supply organization for easy access by the health care team.
• Participates in projects and other duties as assigned by Surgical Support Services Supervisor or Perioperative leadership.
• Partners with anesthesia to ensure supply access for patient care delivery.
• Performs room and department decontamination per CDC/AORN/ASA guidelines.
• Performs tasks to pull supplies and instruments to prepare for cases with quality control.
• Provides resources to staff during surgical cases to minimize interruptions.
• Follows processes for acquiring, storing and handling surgical equipment per division guidelines.
• Must be able to perform professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Surgical Support Services Technician, under direction of supervisor or other member of the management team is responsible for ensuring that the surgical services team has access to supplies/instrumentation in a timely manner; provide efficient and customer focused service to Perioperative Services team including team members, leadership and medical staff and to patients/visitors; assists in transfers of patients; provides customer-focused service to the department for accurate and efficient surgical services supply support.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Assists with patient transfers and communicates with patient utilizing high service standards/behaviors.


• Communicates with the health care team; effective communication regarding room needs, necessary follow-up by intraoperative team.


• Facilitates adequate stocking of emergency supply stock and specialty section stock to ensure accessibility for patient care needs.


• Maintains high level of supply organization to ensure that inventory is appropriately managed and accessible to the health care team.


• Participates in projects and performs other duties as assigned by the Surgical Support Services Supervisor and/or other member of the Perioperative leadership team.


• Partners with anesthesia services to ensure practitioners have access to required supplies for patient care delivery.


• Performs room and department decontamination as recommended by CDC, AORN, ASA, KUHA and manufacturer's guidelines.


• Performs task related to pulling supplies and instruments to adequately and accurately prepare for cases; tasks include quality control mechanisms to ensure successful case pulls.


• Provides resources to staff during surgical cases to ensure that the team has the tools and equipment to perform surgical duties with minimal unnecessary interruption.


• Reviews and follows processes for acquiring, storing and handling surgical equipment in an organized, efficient manner according to division guidelines.


• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate or GED.

Required Licensure and Certification
