Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a part-time OR Tech at Great Bend Hospital to support the perioperative care team. The role focuses on patient care assistance, environment upkeep, transportation of patients and supplies, equipment setup, and collaboration with nursing and housekeeping duties in the operating room and PACU.

Required are a High School Diploma, CNA certification, and BLS. Candidates should be able to work with sterile fields and maintain environmental cleanliness,

Qualifications

Position Summary / Career Interest:

Under the supervision of the nursing department’s management assists the perioperative care team in many aspects of patient care including but not limited to, patient care assistance, care of the environment, transportation of patients, supplies and equipment; interacts with other departments; performs cleaning; restocks and orders supplies; setup equipment and provides support para-nursing & housekeeping functions in the Operating Room,& PACU

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrates knowledge of sterile field.
• Illustrates proper technique for transporting and positioning patients safely.
• Displays understanding of proper body mechanics.
• Demonstrates special positions and/or bed positions
• Recognizes the area of surgical prep (clean or sterile).
• Responsible for maintaining environmental cleanliness standards of the operating rooms and ancillary areas.
• Demonstrates proper technique for surgical skins preps.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Assesses case schedule and determines equipment and supply needs.
• Sets up equipment and gathers supplies.
• Completes the equipment maintenance, checks and repairs and makes adjustments necessary for normal and efficient operation; monitors equipment temperature to ensure proper performance; contacts maintenance if repairs are needed; works closely with the machines in order to recognize potential problems and learns to repair small problems; and fills out work requests when needed.
• Participates in department specific quality improvement projects.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Preferred Education and Experience

• High School Graduate

Required Licensure and Certification

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
• Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states
• Successful completion of a nurse assistant training program.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

• Additional certification may be required for certain patient care setting or populations. Specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director/manager/supervisor at time of hire/transfer into department.

Knowledge Requirements

• Knowledge of principals, methods and techniques involved in performing general operating room services and adapting or modifying standards of operating room practices for care of specific medical cases required.
