Description
Position Purpose: The Sterile Processing Lead Technician is responsible for directing the preparation of instruments and supplies in a safe and cost-effective manner within the standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Position Specific Performance Expectations:
- Monitoring the performance of staff members to ensure that they are following proper procedures
- Reviewing the sterilization methods used by the facility to ensure that they meet sterilization standards
- Ensuring that all sterilization equipment is functioning properly and ordering repairs when necessary
- Ensuring that sterilization processes meet regulatory requirements such as sterilization cycle time and temperature
- Ensuring that staff members are trained on proper sterilization procedures
- Working with staff and instrument vendors to determine the best sterilization methods for instrumentation used at the facility
- Conducting training sessions for staff members on sterilization techniques
- Reviewing sterilization records for accuracy and completeness, and making any necessary corrections
- Oversees central sterile supply inventory and routine maintenance of equipment and instruments
- Develops with the Director of Surgery, policies and procedures related to the sterile processing unit
- Identifies and troubleshoots equipment performance issues and determining the need for service and/or repairs
- Communicates with service reps to coordinate any equipment repairs/servicing that is required
- Provides feedback to the Director of Surgical Services regarding budgetary considerations and opportunities for improvement.
- Provides insight, direction and acts as a resource for sterile processing throughout the organization including the clinic processes.
- Demonstrates responsibility for care of instruments/equipment, including cleaning and processing of instruments.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring and chemical monitoring.
- Monitors and promotes a safe environment during care and maintenance of instruments and Performs all aspects of Sterile Processing and Central Services in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Assists the Surgical Services team to plan and evaluate procedural needs to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate appropriate supplies for procedures
- Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.
- Employs critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, and take appropriate action.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for driving positions)
- Must be able to legally work in the United States
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Completion of a sterile processing technician course required within 2 years of hire
- CRCST certification preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of two year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician

Position Classification: Non-exempt
Compensation Range: $18.41 to $27.26
