Job summary

Van Buren County Hospital in Iowa is seeking a PRN Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN) to join our operating environment. This role provides specialized nursing care across the surgical continuum and supports safe, patient-centered services in a Critical Access Hospital setting.

You will coordinate care before, during, and after procedures, serve as circulating nurse and scrub assistant as qualified, and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the care team.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the State of Iowa or compact state eligibility.
• BLS certification.
• ACLS certification or ability to obtain within the introductory period.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide nursing care throughout the surgical continuum.
• Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures and scrub role when competency is demonstrated.
• Promote patient safety through sterile technique and surgical safety standards.
• Participate in surgical counts, specimen management, patient positioning, and Universal Protocol/Surgical Time Out.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, Sterile Processing, and team to ensure exceptional patient care.
• Participate in on-call coverage for Surgical Services.
• Provide nursing support in the Wound Treatment & Infusion Center as needed.
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with standards.
• Engage in departmental quality improvement, competency validation, and continuing professional development.

Education

Registered Nurse license in Iowa or compact state eligibility

BLS Certification

Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN) – PRN

Van Buren County Hospital is seeking a PRN Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Services team. This position provides specialized nursing care across the surgical continuum while supporting safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical services within our Critical Access Hospital. The Surgical Services RN plays an integral role in coordinating patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures while working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. During periods of reduced surgical volume, this position also provides nursing support within the Wound Treatment & Infusion Center based on demonstrated competencies and departmental needs.

• Coordinate and provide nursing care throughout the surgical continuum.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and prepare patients for surgical procedures.
• Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures and function in the scrub role when competency has been demonstrated.
• Promote patient safety through adherence to sterile technique, evidence-based practice, and established surgical safety standards.
• Participate in surgical counts, specimen management, patient positioning, and implementation of the Universal Protocol and Surgical Time Out.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, Sterile Processing, and other healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient care.
• Participate in on-call coverage for Surgical Services.
• Provide nursing support within the Wound Treatment & Infusion Center, including infusion therapy, wound care, specialty treatments, patient education, and patient follow-up based on demonstrated competencies and operational needs.
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement, competency validation, and continuing professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa or compact state eligibility.
• Current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification or ability to obtain within the introductory period.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Surgical Services or perioperative nursing experience.
• Circulating and/or scrub experience.
• CNOR certification.
• Experience in wound care or outpatient infusion services.
• Critical Access Hospital experience.
• Experience using Epic electronic medical records.
