GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Director, Surgical Services, the Surgical Services Partner ensures the availability and completeness of case carts for scheduled, add-on and emergency surgical cases. Maintains par level inventory of sterile trays and supplies needed for surgical flow. Ensure that supplies/trays processed in sterile prep and maintained in the department are appropriately prepared and sterilized.

These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

DESCRIPTION:
Duties and Responsibilities:


Order and put away supplies:

  • Put away sterile instruments and trays in appropriate locations.
  • Check par levels on back-up carts and complete the “need” list. Send a list to sterile prep.
  • Return cancelled case carts and unused supplies downstairs on an on-going basis throughout the day. Check with the charge nurse about cancelled cases on a frequent basis and communicate information to central.
  • Act as the liaison between central and the operating room staff.
  • Communicates status/location of the case carts in the operating room. List on the schedule any missing trays (including the orthopedic total joint trays from outside the hospital.)
  • Place the next case cart outside of the operating room suite when the current case is nearing completion.
  • Keep room staff informed of the status of their case carts and instruments trays, so they are not looking for them.
  • Straighten the inner corridor and operation room suites throughout the day.
  • Inventory SPD supplies that are on the supply carts, operating room suites, and the inner corridor.
  • Send requisition for necessary supplies.
  • Stock each area as needed.
  • Communicate by phone to SPD when items are needed quickly.
Checks case carts for completeness:
  • Requests remaining case carts, complete with proper instruments, trays, and packs as necessary.
  • Checks and maintains sterile integrity of sterile supplies on emergency case carts and back-up cart.
  • Follows written policies for aseptic technique for storage and package integrity.
Assesses schedule for case changes:
  • Checks final schedule and communicates any changes in times, any add-ons, and/or cancellations to central.
  • Makes necessary adjustments to case carts that are already here.
  • Assist with emergency cases as directed by the charge nurse.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Health, vision & dental benefits - eligible at 30 days, following the 1st of the following month.
