Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to manage coordination of tests, procedures, and surgeries. You will schedule procedures, verify patient demographics and insurance, and coordinate with physicians and departments to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate documentation.

The role emphasizes excellent patient service, adherence to pre- and post-operative processes, and efficient use of block time across hospitals within the network.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, and/or GED equivalent programs plus two years of related experience
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills required
• The ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries under supervision of the Practice Supervisor or Manager and physician(s).
• Schedules procedures promptly and follows facility booking guidelines; ensures proper equipment for surgery.
• Verifies patient demographics and insurance; obtains precertification from payer.
• Coordinates procedure appointments with physician calendar and informs patients of preparations.
• Arranges co-surgeon or assistant and coordinates cross-department scheduling.
• Maintains pre-op procedures and documentation; schedules pre-surgery appointments and medical clearances.
• Maintains block time guidelines at each hospital.
• Coordinates postoperative care under provider direction.
• Obtains surgical billing information; works with coding to post and reconcile charges.
• Tracks completed and pending cases, and pathology results.
• Provides excellent customer service and empathetic patient interactions.
