Job summary

Abington Memorial Hospital is seeking a Surgical Scheduler to courteously and professionally schedule inpatient and outpatient procedures. The role supports the Jefferson Experience by emphasizing prompt and courteous patient treatment.

The Scheduler will handle pre-procedure calls, verify insurance details and authorizations, provide pre-op instructions, and ensure compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards while interacting with patients and staff.

• Provides patient with all necessary pre-operative instructions.
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements and complies with regulatory standards.
• Other duties as requested or assigned.

The Surgical Scheduler enhances the patient/customer experience by courteously and professionally scheduling inpatient/outpatient procedures and/or surgeries. The Surgical Scheduler supports delivery of the Jefferson Experience by placing emphasis on the prompt and courteous treatment of all patients.

Job Duties

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.(Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
• Collect and review patient insurance information to include but not limited to: obtaining prior authorizations (inpatient and outpatient) and referral information and ensure all necessary approvals are in place prior to the scheduled surgical procedure.
• Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients via telephone.
• Provides patient with all necessary pre-operative instructions.
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards.
• Other duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to provide and support a positive Jefferson Experience for all patients and/or visitors. Ability to process and interpret data. Ability to multi task while managing a time sensitive workload.

Additional Qualifications:

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
