Job summary

The Surgical Room Specialist I at UVMMC supports peri-operative services by assisting with patient care before, during, and after procedures, including patient positioning, transport, and operating room equipment readiness.

This role collaborates with OR RNs, surgeons, anesthesia providers and biomedical staff to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient operating room environment. A HS diploma or GED and at least 1 year of patient care experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Assist with patient care before, during and after surgery.
  • Position patients and transport as required.
  • Support anesthesia during intubation and handle specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care, positioning and transport in perioperative context.
  • Prepare and maintain OR equipment and inventory.
  • Collaborate with OR RNs, Surgeons, Anesthesia Providers and Biomedical staff to ensure safety and efficiency.

Job Description

The Surgical Room Specialist I functions within the policies and procedures of UVMMC and Peri-Operative Services. This position encompasses both the clinical and technical activities of assisting with patient care, before, during and after surgical procedures to include patient positioning, patient transport, OR equipment preparation and maintenance, inventory control, anesthesia support during intubation, pathological and laboratory specimen handling and participation in quality control initiatives.

The Surgical Room Specialist I functions within the policies and procedures of UVMMC and Peri-Operative Services. This position encompasses both the clinical and technical activities of assisting with patient care, before, during and after surgical procedures to include patient positioning, patient transport, OR equipment preparation and maintenance, inventory control, anesthesia support during intubation, pathological and laboratory specimen handling and participation in quality control initiatives.

The Surgical Room Specialist I will work closely with OR RNs, OR Technicians, Surgeons, Anesthesia Providers, Pharmacy, Operating Room Staff and Biomedical Engineering. They will help maintain a safe and clean physical work environment. The Surgical Room Specialist I works under the direction and supervision of OR Leadership.

HS Diploma or GED

Experience

1 year of patient care experience is preferred.
