Job summary

Tioga Medical Center is seeking a Surgical RN to join our team. Applicants must have excellent observation and assessment skills and the ability to educate patients and families. The opportunity to work full-time is possible with also working in Long-Term Care or Hospital+ER!

Position Type: Part-time or PRN

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) from accredited college or university required, BSN preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State of North Dakota required.
  • Must have active BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes nursing responsibility for pre- and post- operative patients.
  • Perform an assessment on patient prior to surgery.
  • Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and in order.
  • Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure.
  • Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure.
  • Monitor vital signs.
  • Log all findings in patient files.
  • Answer patient questions and ensure they are kept comfortable.
  • Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the physician.
  • Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies.
  • Assist in operating room when needed.
  • Supervises Pre Operative/Post Operative Staff LPN and Surgery CNA.
  • Active in quality assurance and infection control and must be informed and follow OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintain the proper surgery dress code.
  • Attend surgery department meetings and inservices provided to improve individual abilities and techniques. be willing to comply with the goals and objectives set by the hospital.
  • Attend in-services, and other various meetings.
  • May be required to travel to attend work-related meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Perform all duties or tasks requested by the Surgery Director and/or CEO.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ADDITIONAL TASKS

Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents' and patients' rights.

Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.

Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.

Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to CEO.

Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.

Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.

Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility's emergency plan.

Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.

Follows established infection control policies and procedures.

As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.

Ability to maintain good balance, stand for prolonged periods of time.

Must have good visual, audible, hand and finger dexterity as required for duties of the position, according to NDBON guidelines and TMC policies, and perform CPR.

Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.

Must have physical agility to respond in a quick manner and in accordance with established facility practices regarding unexpected patient safety needs.

Must have the mental capability to keep informed of new methods and technology.

Must possess general clinical competency in acute patient care. Must demonstrate the ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care.

Must demonstrate knowledge in proper use of equipment used in the O.R, assembly of equipment for use, maintaining equipment, trouble-shooting ability and cleaning and disposal of equipment.

Must be willing to comply with the goals and objectives set by the hospital.

Must be knowledgeable and aware of legal responsibilities and limits of scope of practice.

Must possess basic computer skills, such as navigating electronic medical record systems.

Ability to complete forms and records, both electronically and on paper.

Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations.

Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.

May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.

May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.

Works in well-lit, ventilated area and in the operating room.

Subject to frequent interruptions.

Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.

Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
