Job summary

Tioga Medical Center is seeking a Clinic Receptionist for a full-time, non-exempt role (Monday-Friday). You will check in patients for various clinics, verify and update patient information, scan IDs and insurance cards, collect payments, and route to billing.

You will coordinate paperwork for appointments and assist in scheduling with multiple providers. You will support the team by greeting patients, guiding them to departments, and helping with radiology and therapy coordination.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be a supportive team member and work well with others.

  • Sign patients up for MyChart and assist self-pay patients with quotes.

Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt (Monday-Friday)

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Check in patients for Clinic, Therapy, Radiology, Cardiac Rehab, Drug Screens, Nurse Visits, Diabetic Education,and Specialty Providers.

Confirm and update patient information as they check in (ID, insurance cards, address, phone number).

Scan in ID and insurance cards.

Ensure required documents are presented to the patient, and the signature is captured.

Monitor and correct errors in workques for registration.

Offer HPE to self-pay patients and help them apply for HPE (Temporary State Medical Insurance).

Sign patients up for MyChart.

Take payments and direct them to the billing department when necessary.

Provide patients with the necessary paperwork for different appointments.

Coordinate required paperwork for appointments (pre-op, payment authorizations, medical clearance, DOT, WSI).

Schedule appointments while following each provider’s guidelines.

Assist in Therapy schedules.

Schedule and coordinate with Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Diabetic Education, and Drug Screens.

Obtain authorization on corporate account physicals and drug screens.

Take detailed messages for nursing staff and providers in electronic health records and designate them to the appropriate person/group.

Answer patient's questions regarding various departments throughout the facility or directing patients to the person with those answers.

Greet everyone as they enter the facility with a friendly demeanor.

Direct patients to the correct departments of the facility.

Help to coordinate outpatient radiology services (MRI, Ultrasound).

Help to coordinate specialty providers.

Collect and record copays/payments for visits and therapy and post payment on accounts.

Assist self-pay patients in obtaining quotes for services and collecting payment for those services.

Have patients sign record release forms for Medical Records.

Attends department and in-service meetings.

Perform all duties assigned by supervisor or Administration.

ADDITIONAL TASKS

Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents’ and patients’ rights.

Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.

Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents, patients, and themselves.

Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.

Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or CEO.

Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.

Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.

Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.

Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.

Follows established infection control policies and procedures.

As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

PERSONAL SKILLS AND TRAITS DESIRED/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork.

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, patients, family and staff.

Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer.

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.

Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.

Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations.

Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.

May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.

May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise judgement.

Intermediate computer skills, including ability to create documents in various programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe), and navigate electronic medical record systems.

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Works in well-lit, ventilated area.

Subject to frequent interruptions.

Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.

Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
