Job description

Surgical Physician Assistant will provide medical services within the education, training, and experience of the surgical physician assistant, delegated by the supervising Chief PA and Medical PA Director for Women’s Health OBGYN.

Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, writing progress notes, procedure notes, and monthly care plans, ordering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, formulating diagnoses, developing and implementing treatment plans, monitoring therapeutic interventions, offering counseling and education, and making referrals. In emergencies, Physician Assistants are authorized to treat any medical condition or perform any surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates, defined as situations where delay would cause serious harm or immediate threat to life, and a qualified practitioner is not available.

Work Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 7am - 4:30pm; one day 7am - 4pm

Tuesday: 6:30am - 4pm

Job Responsibilities:

• EKG Recording
• Foley Catheters insertion and removal
• Injections: Sub Q, IM, intradermal for minor ER surgeries
• Intravenous medication administration
• Nasogastric tubes insertion and removal
• Assist in the operating room as first assist
• Assist in D&C or D&E procedures
• Surgical dressings application/removal
• Suture and staple removal
• Venipuncture
• ER and floor consults
• Admit and follow-up with patients, document progress
• Order and interpret labs and imaging
• Preoperative and postoperative care
• Obtain informed consents
• Prostaglandins insertion for medical termination
• Biopsies of endometrial, cervical, vaginal, vulvar areas
• Access port-a-cath
• Coordinate discharge care for safe outpatient transfer

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s preferred
• Graduate of an accredited PA program
• Registered as a Physician’s Assistant in New York State
