Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Capital Region's only academic medical center.

This is an opportunity for a Pathologists' Assistant who enjoys complex and diverse surgical pathology, meaningful professional autonomy, close collaboration with pathologists and residents, and an active role in education and laboratory practice.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Pathologists’ Assistant program (NAACLS-accredited).
• Certification PA(ASCP) by ASCP.
• Active NY State PA license or eligibility to obtain licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of diverse surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate tissue for intraoperative consults and frozen sections with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens with accurate orientation and submission.
• Teach and mentor residents and learners in grossing and pathology techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, OR personnel, and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, and departmental initiatives.
