Job summary

UAB Medical West Hospital seeks a skilled RN-Circulator to support the operating room team before, during, and after surgery. You will help maintain sterility, prepare supplies, position patients, and respond to intraoperative needs in collaboration with surgeons and anesthesiologists.

The role requires vigilance, strong communication, and the ability to document events accurately while ensuring patient safety and efficient workflow in a perioperative setting.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing.
• Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree).
• BLS certification.
• Experience in a surgical or perioperative nursing environment.
• Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room ensuring all equipment and supplies are sterile and ready.
• Assist in patient positioning and ensure patient safety and comfort during surgery.
• Monitor the surgical environment to maintain aseptic technique and prevent infection.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other team members to anticipate intraoperative needs.
• Document all aspects of the surgical procedure including patient info, supplies used, and events.
• Respond promptly to emergencies during surgery and coordinate appropriate interventions.
• Facilitate communication between the surgical team and other hospital departments.
• Assist with post-operative patient transfer and relay information to recovery room staff.
