Job Summary
Performs a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching, and admitting/discharge duties in support of the assigned patient care department.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements describe the general nature of work performed by individuals in this position. They are not all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Greeting and admitting patients upon arrival.
- Courteously greeting patients.
- Completing admitting information in the computer.
- Locating and assigning beds.
- Notifying referring physicians of admissions, as requested.
- Communicating transfer information efficiently within the hospital.
- Transferring patients within the same care area and updating the computer accordingly.
- Notifying departments and obtaining bed assignments when transferring patients to different areas.
- Handling discharge functions, including disassembling patient records.
- Scheduling follow-up appointments and arranging transportation as needed.
- Completing discharge documentation in the computer and faxing summaries.
- Facilitating communication between departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Answering phones and intercoms courteously and promptly.
- Maintaining accurate messages and greeting visitors courteously.
- Providing information to physicians and staff per hospital policies.
- Entering physician orders into the EPIC system accurately and timely.
- Generating and distributing medical records and schedules for tests and procedures.
- Maintaining communication with other departments to meet patient care needs.
- Coordinating patient transportation and dispatching personnel as needed.
- Organizing and maintaining patient and department records.
- Preparing patient identification bands and name tags accurately.
- Managing patient charts and reviewing printed orders for accuracy.
- Recording lab results and alerting RNs of abnormal findings.
- Maintaining stock levels of office supplies and recording departmental activity data.
