Job description

What you will do
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care under the supervision of a physician.
  • Function primarily as a first assistant during cardiovascular and thoracic operative procedures.
  • Act as a Clinical Practice Expert: provide advanced level of direct and indirect care to individual patients/families and/or groups of patients/families in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Serve as an Evidence-Based Consultant & Researcher: demonstrate collaborative leadership with researchers, other health professionals, divisions, and departments to generate knowledge and make practice changes based on research findings and the results of the organizational and departmental quality improvement processes.
  • Serve as a Clinical Leader: provide leadership in meeting system, organizational, division, and departmental goals; demonstrate accountability for professional responsibilities and self-development.
Education & Training Requirements
  • Master’s Degree (Physician Assistant).
Work Experience Requirements
  • Physician Assistant with 1–3 years experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed Physician Assistant (Tennessee) – Tennessee Board of Physician Assistants.
  • Physician Assistant‑Certified – National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Preferred: Licensed Physician Assistant (Mississippi) – Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with physicians, residents, advanced practice nurses, nurses, department leaders, and support staff, thereby creating a cohesive well‑developed team.

Physical Demands
  • Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Frequent travel outside hospital.
  • Frequent handling or administering of narcotics.
  • Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend throughout the shift.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination.
