Job summary

Garnet Health Medical Center in New York is seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner First Assist for our Surgicalist team. The role focuses on clinical management, quality improvement, and perioperative patient care across pre-, intra-, and post-operative settings.

Responsibilities include intra-operative first assisting, PACU/SICU/step-down care, and education of staff on trauma and surgical competencies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Physician's Assistant Program
• Current NYS PA licensure
• Successful completion and maintenance of NCCPA certification
• Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications; ATLS preferred
• Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate required
• Infectious Certificate required
• DEA certificate active and unrestricted
• RNFA certification or RNFA training to be obtained within 1 year
• Board Certification as NP (ANP/Adult/Acute Care) within 1 year of hire
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with Chief Medical Officer or Trauma Program Medical Director

Responsibilities

• Participate in all aspects of care of the Trauma and Surgery patient including physical exams and treatment of illness
• Provide intra-operative first assist and PACU/SICU/step-down care in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists and care teams
• Educate and consult with staff on trauma and surgical competencies and new procedures
• Support obstetric cesarean section first assist coverage; participate in weekend and night call and cross-campus coverage

Education

Graduate of an Accredited Physician's Assistant Program

Current Physician's Assistant Licensure in New York State

Board Certification by NCCPA

BLS/ACLS/PALS Certification

ATLS Certification (within 1 year)

DEA Certificate

Infectious Certificate

Opioid Prescriber Training Certificate

RNFA Certification (NP)

Board Certification as ANP/ANP (NP)
