Surgical Medical Coder - National Remote

Role Overview: As a Medical Coder, you will provide coding and auditing services directly to providers. Your work ensures our documentation standards are met, supporting quality care and accurate data management across our healthcare system.

Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling in consultation with your manager. Telecommuting from anywhere within the U.S. is supported.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes based on clinical documentation and coding guidelines for outpatient hospital accounts.
  • Monitor work queues to ensure timely coding of records.
  • Generate coding queries for clarification of physician documentation as needed.
  • Stay updated on coding conventions and updates.
  • Manage workload efficiently under pressure, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED or higher.
  • Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (e.g., CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, COC, CPC-P), maintained annually.
  • At least 2 years of experience with PCs in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Surgical coding experience, particularly with Plastics and/or Otolaryngology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Over 2 years of post-certification medical coding experience.
  • Over 1 year of outpatient physician coding (Pro-Fee).
  • Experience with encoder systems like Encoder Pro or EPIC.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range is $19.86 to $38.85, based on experience, education, certifications, and local labor markets.
