Job summary

The Department of Surgery at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team.

The MA provides essential clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment, specializing in patient intake, pre- and post-operative care, patient education, and assisting providers with minor in-office procedures.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
• Active Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA) required.
• Experience preferred but motivated learners are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and record vitals in the EHR/EPIC.
• Assist during minor in-office procedures and prepare rooms.
• Coordinate pre- and post-operative care and patient education.
• Manage specimen handling, wound care, and infection control.
• Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with the care team.
