Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to work under the surgeon's direction and collaborate with the care team to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes.

The role includes assisting in 1st/2nd assisting, circulating and scrubbing as needed, setting up the OR, passing instruments, and maintaining clinical communication across teams. This position requires completing an Accredited Surgical First Assistant program and BLS; ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Capable of performing 1st and/or 2nd assisting in surgical procedures.
• Communicates clearly with physicians, nurses, and technicians.
• Demonstrates leadership and team development.

Responsibilities

• Assist as 1st/2nd assistant in surgical procedures.
• Circulate, scrub, and perform duties within licensed scope.
• Provide surgical site exposure, hemostasis, and closure of incisions.
• Set up operating room and pass instruments to surgeons during surgery.
• Mentor and train other staff; maintain professional communication.
