Job summary

Frontline Dental Implant Specialists seeks an Oral Surgery Assistant to support the oral maxillofacial surgeons at the Montour Oral Surgery clinic in Pittsburgh. You will assist in routine and complex procedures, prepare charts, operate radiography equipment, and maintain sterile instruments while ensuring top patient care and safety.

Responsibilities include patient preparation, chart updates, anesthesia support, and post-operative education.

Qualifications

• OMFS assistant certification required.
• Radiography certification required.
• Preferred: minimum six months of dental assisting experience.
• Solid knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments and materials.
• Good understanding of chairside responsibilities and safety protocols.
• Excellent documentation of dental records and charts.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist oral maxillofacial surgeons in routine and advanced procedures.
• Prepare patient charts, treatment plans and update dental records.
• Operate X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and develop radiographs.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare materials per infection control protocols.
• Assist surgeon chairside including setup, anesthesia, and cleanup.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs.
• Provide patient education on oral health and postoperative outcomes.
• Monitor stock of surgical supplies and replenish as needed.
• Ensure instruments and equipment are properly maintained.
• Provide excellent patient care at all times.

Job Details: Job Location: Montour Oral Surgery - PA - Pittsburgh, PA 15205, Position Type: Full Time, Job Category: Health Care, The Oral Surgery Assistant will provide assistance to oral maxillofacial surgeons within the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. Duties will include assisting in routine and advanced oral surgery procedures as directed by the oral surgeon. Additional duties include and are not limited to, patient preparation and positioning; clinical area preparation; oral surgery assisting, the use, maintenance, distribution of surgical equipment, instruments and supplies, and the collection and maintenance of patient data and records.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performing administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, charting, and filing.
• Preparing patient charts, recording treatment plans, and updating dental records.
• Operating X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and developing radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
• Preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Assisting the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup.
• Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
• Providing patients with information on oral health care, treatment plans, and postoperative outcomes.
• Monitoring our stock of surgical supplies and medication and replenishing these, as needed.
• Ensuring that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
• Providing excellent patient care at all times.

REQUIREMENTS

• Oral and maxillofacial surgery assistant certification.
• Radiography certification.
• At least six months of dental assisting experience is preferred.
• Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials.
• A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
• An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
• Great organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
• Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
