Job summary

Dugan & Sweeney Oral & Maxillofacial in Butler, PA is seeking an experienced Surgical Dental Assistant to join our fast-paced oral surgery team. The role involves chairside assistance, patient prep, and collaboration with surgeons to ensure a high standard of care.

You will support anesthesia monitoring, help with pre- and post-operative instructions, and maintain sterile rooms and accurate documentation in a welcoming, patient-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in dental assisting, ideally in oral surgery.
• Familiarity with extractions, implants, or surgical procedures is a plus.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with surgical procedures as chairside assistant.
• Prepare patients and review medical histories for pre-op procedures.
• Support anesthesia monitoring in accordance with training and protocols.
• Maintain sterile environments and prepare surgical rooms and instruments.

In this hands-on clinical role, you'll work alongside oral surgeons, assist with surgical procedures, and help provide exceptional care to patients throughout their treatment experience.

We're especially interested in candidates with previous dental assisting experience who are comfortable in a fast-paced clinical environment. Oral surgery experience is a big plus!

What You'll Do

• Assist With Surgical Procedures: Provide chairside assistance during oral surgery procedures, including extractions, dental implants, and other surgical treatments.
• Prepare and Support Patients: Seat patients, obtain vital signs, review medical histories, and assist with pre-operative preparations.
• Support Anesthesia Monitoring: Assist the surgical team with patient monitoring in accordance with your training, certifications, and established protocols.
• Provide Exceptional Patient Care: Help patients feel comfortable and informed by providing clear pre-operative and post-operative instructions.
• Prepare Surgical Rooms and Instruments: Set up treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and maintain clinical equipment to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment.
• Maintain Accurate Documentation: Complete patient charting, treatment documentation, and clinical records accurately and efficiently.
• Collaborate With Your Team: Work closely with surgeons and fellow team members to ensure smooth daily operations and an outstanding patient experience.
• Maintain Safety Standards: Follow OSHA, infection control, radiation safety, and patient confidentiality requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous dental assisting experience strongly preferred, ideally in oral surgery or another surgical dental setting.
• Experience assisting with extractions, dental implants, or other surgical procedures is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with surgical instruments, sterilization procedures, and patient preparation.
• Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical patient care is a plus.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required.
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assisting or Dental Assistant certification preferred.
• Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-focused approach.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to stay organized in a busy clinical environment.
• A dependable, team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to meet applicable occupational health and safety requirements, including Hepatitis B and TB screening documentation as required by the practice.
