Qualifications

Summary of Job Duties:
This position will work remotely. The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist - Surgical Specialist will evaluate health record documentation to ensure accurate coding, applying knowledge of anatomy, disease processes, pharmacology, and procedural terminology. Responsibilities include assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures, ensuring medical necessity, and assisting with patient billing to submit clean claims.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Understanding of CPT and ICD-10
  • Certification: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA
  • Two years of coding experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's in Health Information Management
  • RHIA or RHIT preferred

Additional Information:

  • Review and select appropriate ICD-10 codes; perform CPT coding for surgeries in inpatient, observation, and day surgery settings, utilizing electronic systems like Epic.
  • Review and perform charge data entry, collaborating with staff and providers.
  • Interact professionally with the public, maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating effective communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
