Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center seeks a qualified Surgical Assistant to support operative teams in Miami Beach. You will position and transfer patients, prepare the sterile field, and assist with instrumentation under supervision.

  • Surgical Assistant Certification and CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: 1 year SA experience in healthcare setting.
  • Active licensure and ability to maintain records on file.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with positioning and transfers pre/post-operatively, ensuring patient safety.
  • Maintain licensure and CPR/BLS certification; keep documentation on file.
  • Assist in catheter/line insertion, draping and patient prep for procedures.
  • Understand anatomy/physiology relevant to procedures and positioning.
  • Use instruments safely and correctly; handle sterile field and PPE.
  • Inspect sterile packages and trays for integrity before use.
  • Maintain sterile field; ensure aseptic technique throughout operation.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs for exposure and retract tissues carefully.
  • Keep a dry field; manage suction and electrocautery appropriately.
  • Clamp bleeding vessels with instruments; apply sponges/pressure as needed.
  • Demonstrate knot tying and suturing/stapling techniques.
  • Alert nurse to any aseptic technique breaks and correct them.

We welcome all healthcare professionals to join our thriving community and contribute to our pursuit for clinical excellence.Department:Job Description Summary:Position ResponsibilitiesAssists with positioning and transferring of patients pre and post-operatively using proper body mechanics while monitoring patient safety.Maintains current licensure and current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification keeping written evidence on file at all times.Participates in insertion of catheters and/or lines, draping and prepping of patients as needed.Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to the surgical procedure and patient positioning.Utilizes instrumentation and equipment safely and correctly. Inspects sterile packages and containers for integrity prior to placing on the sterile field. Inspects all sterile trays for indicative changes prior to placing on sterile field.Uses proper precautions when handling sharps and instrumentation. Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when scrubbed at the surgical field.Assures maintenance of sterile filed until dressing are applied, x-rays are taken, and/or patient is out of the OR.Anticipates surgeon's need for exposure, retracting tissues or organs by use of one hand, minimizing tissue damage and visual obstruction to the surgeon.Maintains a dry surgical field with utilization of proper suctioning techniques and appropriate electrocautery.Uses surgical instruments to clamp bleeding vessels.
