Job description

Job Title: Surgical Assistant - Ortho PMs at Advocate Health

Join us to apply for the Surgical Assistant - Ortho PMs role at Advocate Health.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Participating in surgical prep, assisting the operating team with supplies, room setup, patient positioning, and draping.
  2. Anticipating and responding to the surgeon's needs by ensuring all supplies are ready and recognizing preferences.
  3. Maintaining a sterile, safe, and efficient operating environment, including equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  4. Training and mentoring Surgical Technologists and new Surgical Assistants, participating in team activities and special projects.
  5. Performing validated surgical activities under surgeon supervision, such as wound closure, patient positioning, and application of dressings, with proper documentation and competency records.
  6. Providing care appropriate to patients' age-specific needs, with knowledge of growth and development principles.

Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Surgical First Assist (CSFA), or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) within 12 months, if not already held.
  • Advanced training in Surgical Technology from an accredited program.
  • Typically 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in major surgical specialties, anatomy, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to anticipate physician needs and respond effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform transfers, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have functional sight and hearing, and wear protective gear as required.
