Job summary

Northwest-Health-Porte in Valparaiso, IN is seeking a Surgical Assistant for a part-time, daytime schedule (24 hours/week) to support the operating room and perioperative team. The role involves room setup, patient prep, instrument handling, sterile technique, and efficient turnover.

You will collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to ensure safety and smooth workflow, while maintaining aseptic practices. CPR and BCLS are required, CST is preferred.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience in a surgical, sterile processing, or patient care support role
• 1-2 years of experience supporting perioperative services or working in a surgical setting preferred
• CPR and BCLS certifications are required

Responsibilities

• Assists with operating room setup and ensures instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile
• Prepares and positions patients for surgery and assists with transport and draping
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgical team while maintaining aseptic technique
• Maintains sterile field and follows infection prevention practices during procedures
• Assists with room turnover and prepares for the next case
• Supports patient safety and comfort during preparation and recovery
• Collaborates with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to optimize workflow
• Stocks supplies and ensures readiness of surgical materials
