Beacon Oral Specialists in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking a Surgical Assistant I to join our oral surgery team. This full-time position supports surgeons during consultations and procedures, manages lab duties, and ensures infection control and patient comfort throughout the day.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, CPR/BLS certification, and a dental X-ray license (or ability to obtain them after hire). Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Great organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
• Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon during consultations and treatment.
• Basic lab duties (Impressions, pouring up/trimming models).
• Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Autoclave operation and function.
• Surgical tray set-up.
• Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
• Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.

To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs.

Surgical Responsibilities:

• Assist Surgeon during consultations and treatment.
• Basic lab duties (Impressions, pouring up/trimming models).
• Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Autoclave operation and function.
• Surgical tray set-up.
• Identification of instruments used in the clinic.
• Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
• Seat patient and perform pre‑op set‑up.
• Review charts.
• Nitrous oxide set‑up.
• Properly positioning restraints.
• Support airway for sedated patients.
• Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
• Excellent patient care & communication.

Non‑Surgical Responsibilities:

• Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms.
• Take vital signs.
• Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure‑based, consent forms, etc.)
• Aware of and in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. personal protection)
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
• Make follow up phone calls to patients.
• May take X‑Rays.
• Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
• Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Dental X‑ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Great organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program preferred.
• Certification as a Surgical Assistant preferred.

• Monday to Friday 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM,

Special Requirements:

• Working in the office is an essential part of the job function.
• Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum.
