Job Location: Loudoun Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Ashburn, VA

Summary:

We are looking for a Surgical Assistant to join our growing practice. We pride ourselves on guiding our staff to learn and gain hands-on training to advance within the company. To succeed as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs.

Surgical Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the surgeon during consultations and treatments.
  2. Perform basic lab duties (impressions, pouring up/trimming models).
  3. Proper instrument cleaning following infection control and biohazard protocols.
  4. Operate autoclaves.
  5. Set up surgical trays.
  6. Identify instruments used in the clinic.
  7. Set up and break down rooms for IV anesthesia and surgery.
  8. Seat patients and perform pre-op setup.
  9. Review patient charts.
  10. Set up nitrous oxide.
  11. Properly position restraints.
  12. Support airway management for sedated patients.
  13. Circulate and retrieve instruments during procedures.
  14. Provide excellent patient care and communication.

Non-Surgical Responsibilities:

  1. Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms.
  2. Take vital signs.
  3. Familiarize with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.).
  4. Comply with OSHA requirements (e.g., personal protection).
  5. Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and charting.
  6. Make follow-up phone calls to patients.
  7. Take X-Rays if needed.
  8. Manage office opening and closing procedures (tanks, suction, X-ray).
  9. Greet patients and ensure they feel comfortable.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (may be obtained after hire).
  • Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) (may be obtained after hire).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent patient care under stress.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts.

Special Requirements:

  • In-office work is essential.
  • Must stand up to 80% of the time.
  • Physical requirements include driving, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
