Title: Surgical Assistant
Practice: Associated Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons
Location: 929 W Carl Sandburg Dr.
Galesburg, IL 61401

Office Hours:

  • Monday: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.
  • Tuesday: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.
  • Thursday: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: Closed

Pay Range: $21.00 - $23.00 Per Hour

The Surgical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients while practicing and providing safety in the work environment. The ideal candidate will assist oral surgeons during procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all patients receive the highest quality of care and service
  • Communicate with all patients (both in-person and by phone) in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintain positive, pleasant, and professional relationships between patients, staff members, and surgeons
  • Assist oral surgeons during surgical procedures and prepare instruments, materials, and equipment needed for various surgical procedures
  • Support efforts that provide a clean and professional environment for all patients, including, but not limited to, ensuring that operatories are clean, supplies are adequate, equipment is maintained, and compliance with all company policies is maintained
  • Monitor patient's vital signs during surgical procedures and provide support as needed
  • Assist with postoperative care, including patient education and follow-up instructions
  • Document patient encounters and surgical procedures accurately
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, efficient workflow, and exceptional patient care
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings
  • Adhere to best practices, established protocols, and highest patient safety standards

Support monthly office checks:

a. Crash carts
b. Fire extinguishers
c. Emergency preparedness attestations
d. Attest
e. Xray unit calibration
f. Omni-cam calibration
g. Drug book accuracy and controlled substance inventory
h. Ensure oxygen tanks are full and hooked up
i. Ensure invoices for controlled substances are printed
j. Ensure proper controlled substance safety protocols are adhered to

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required (some college preferred)
  • Previous clinical experience. Experience as an oral surgery assistant or dental assistant is preferred. (Will train the right candidate.)
  • Basic life support certification required. Employer will provide training if the candidate is not current

  • Fast-paced dental office environment
  • Overtime is sometimes required as needed to perform job functions
  • Some travel as needed for training and to perform job functions
  • Safety procedures required, including protection to minimize the risks from X-rays
  • Potential long hours standing
