The Southeast Permanente Medical Group (TSPMG) in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support surgeons at multiple locations, including Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Emory Decatur Hospital, and the Atlanta Outpatient Surgical Center. The role involves OR assistance, patient transfer, and perioperative prep.

Minimum requirements include a CAHEP-accredited surgical assisting program and professional certification (NBSTA/ASA/NSAA/ABSA), OSHA biohazard knowledge, and BLS.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program in Surgical Assisting (CAAHEP).
• Certification in NBSTA/ASA/NSAA/ABSA or equivalent.
• Knowledge of OSHA rules related to biohazards and hospital safety.
• General knowledge of hospital procedures and operating room workflow.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance to the surgeon in completing surgical procedures safely and expeditiously.
• Checks the daily surgery schedule with the OR, Kaiser surgery scheduler, or the surgeon.
• Reviews patient chart to obtain history, verify consent, and confirm procedure.
• Assists during induction of anesthesia and participates in Time Out verifications.
• Preps and drapes patient, assists with positioning, and ensures sterile field.
• Transfers patient from OR table to recovery and documents procedures.
