Responsibilities

• Assist Surgeon during consultations and treatment.
• Proper instrument cleaning following infection control protocols.
• Operate autoclave and ensure function.
• Set up surgical trays and organize instruments.
• Identify instruments used in the clinic.
• Prepare room for IV anesthesia and surgery; assist with setup.
• Seat patient and perform pre-op setup.
• Review patient charts.
• Set up nitrous oxide and monitor as needed.
• Position restraints properly for procedures.
• Support airway for sedated patients.
• Circulate and retrieve instruments as required.
• Provide excellent patient care and communication to patients.
• Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms.
• Take vital signs; familiar with all forms and handouts.
• Ensure OSHA compliance and personal protective measures.
• Perform administrative tasks: scheduling, filing, charting.
• Make follow-up phone calls to patients.
• May take X-Rays; close and open the office daily.
• Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.

To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs.

Surgical Responsibilities:

• Assist Surgeon during consultations and treatment.
• Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
• Autoclave operation and function.
• Surgical tray set-up.
• Identification of instruments used in the clinic.
• Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
• Seat patient and perform pre-op set-up.
• Review charts.
• Nitrous oxide set-up.
• Properly positioning restraints.
• Support airway for sedated patients.
• Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
• Excellent patient care & communication.

Non-Surgical Responsibilities:

• Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms.
• Take vital signs.
• Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.)
• Aware of and in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. personal protection)
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
• Make follow up phone calls to patients.
• May take X-Rays.
• Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
• Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required, may be able to obtain once hired.
• Great organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
• Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program preferred.
• Certification as a Surgical Assistant preferred.

Schedule:

• Multi-location practice. Ashburn and South Riding.
• 7:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday
• 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 pm. Friday.

Special Requirements:

• Working in the office is an essential part of the job function.
• Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum.
• Physical requirements include driving, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time.
