Job summary

Beacon Oral Specialists Management, LLC is seeking a diligent Surgical Assistant II to support our oral surgeon before, during, and after procedures at Maryland Oral Surgery Associates in Rockville, MD. The role emphasizes organization, patient care, and precise instrument handling.

You will perform surgical tray setup, instrument counting, room prep, patient monitoring, and post-anesthesia care while adhering to OSHA and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required.

Responsibilities

  • Support oral surgeon before, during, and after each dental procedure.
  • Proper instrument cleaning and autoclave operation per protocols.
  • Surgical tray set-up and instrument identification.
  • Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
  • Seat patient, pre-op setup, and review charts.
  • Review X-Rays / scans and enter EMR notes.
  • Monitor patients post anesthesia and assist as needed.

Summary

Your new career awaits you... We are looking for a diligent oral surgery assistant to support our oral surgeon before, during, and after each dental procedure. To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. An outstanding oral surgery assistant should have an excellent understanding of oral surgery procedures and exceptional hand-eye coordination.

Surgical Responsibilities:
  • Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
  • Autoclave operation and function.
  • Surgical tray set-up.
  • Identification of instruments used in the clinic.
  • Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
  • Seat patient and perform pre-op set-up.
  • Review charts.
  • Nitrous oxide set-up.
  • Proper positioning of restraints.
  • Support airway for sedated patients.
  • Demonstrate patient calming techniques.
  • Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
  • Monitor patients post anesthesia.
  • Assess if patients need to see a doctor.
  • Understand emergency procedures and operation of emergency equipment.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly preventative maintenance on instruments, equipment, and headpieces.
  • Provide excellent patient care.
Non-Surgical Responsibilities:
  • Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.).
  • Aware of and in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. personal protection)
  • Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
  • Perform patient consultations.
  • Make follow up phone calls to patients.
  • Take X-Rays / scans.
  • Enter EMR notes for various appointments and procedures.
  • Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
  • Back-up co-workers as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
  • Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.

Special Requirements:
  • Working on-site is essential to the function of this position.
  • Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding, may lift up to 25 lbs.
