Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an exceptional Surgery Veterinary Assistant to join our team in the Surgery Department. The role requires nursing care, IV catheter placement, vital signs monitoring, and assisting with surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients following hospital standards.
• Place peripheral IV catheters and manage IV fluids.
• Perform physical exams and monitor vital signs.
• Alert doctors to abnormal findings and assist in surgery.
• Prepare patients for surgery and assist during procedures.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain operating rooms.
• Manage inventory and coordinate with purchasers.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department.

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
• Assist in surgical procedures.
• Assist in prepping patient for surgery.
• Clean, maintain and sterilize instruments.
• Clean and maintain operating rooms.
• Inventory management and coordination with purchaser.
