Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Indiana is seeking a Surgery Veterinary Technician to support our fast-paced surgical service and collaborate with surgeons, nurses and clients. This role handles patient histories, anesthesia prep, surgeries prep, blood draws, radiographs, and post-operative care while maintaining accurate records and patient releases.

State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred; veterinary experience, especially in surgery, is required.

Qualifications

  • State-registered veterinary technician preferred.
  • Prior veterinary experience required, surgery experience desired.
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, rate calculations, unit conversions).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, flexible hours.

Responsibilities

  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, keep medical records, handle invoicing and discharges.
  • Fill medications, enter charges, maintain records, schedule appointments.
  • Create patient releases and discuss treatment plans with clients about finances.
  • Prep patients for surgery (shaving, scrubbing, positioning), assist with intubation and radiographs.
  • Perform blood draws and submit bloodwork.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.

We are looking for: Surgery Veterinary Technician

Things like chemotherapy and radiation, cardiac ablations, treatments for glaucoma, physical rehabilitation, dermatology and so much more! Our Surgery team is a fast-paced environment, perfect for technicians that are looking for training in multiple facets of the department and interaction with the other teams in the hospital. This team requires strong communication skills to liaison between surgeons and clients and deliver post-operative care instructions.

What you’ll do:
  • Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc
  • Fill medications, enter charges and maintain accurate medical records, schedule appointments
  • Create patient releases, navigate client conversations around treatment plans and financial obligations
  • Prep patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing and positioning, assist with intubation and radiographs
  • Proficiently perform blood draws and submit bloodwork
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
  • Opening, turning over and cleaning operating rooms, as well as cleaning instruments and wrapping packs
Who are you:
  • State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous surgery experience desired
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
