Job summary

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Orange County, California, is seeking a Surgical Technician II to join the operating room team. You will function as a scrub/assist person, work under direct supervision, and support the physician and registered nurse to deliver direct and indirect patient care during procedures.

You'll help with instrument care, counts, decontamination, and preparation of equipment, and you may be on call.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub Technician program or equivalent military medical core training.
• Minimum of one year Surgery Tech/scrub experience, preferably within an ambulatory or acute healthcare environment.
• GI Lab: Previous GI Endoscopic Tech experience preferred.
• Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates as member of the surgical team under direct supervision of an RN/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager; scrub/assist physician and/or RN.
• Maintains, cares for instruments, supplies and equipment according to manufacturers' instructions and infection prevention standards.
• Identifies, gathers, and prepares instrument and equipment for procedures; ensures patient safety and on-call readiness.

Participates as member of the surgical team under direct supervision of an RN/Charge Nurse or Clinical Manager. Functions in the role of scrub/assist person and assisting physician and/or RN. Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients. Assists with maintenance, care of instruments, supplies and equipment according to the manufacturers’ instructions, standards of infection prevention, and institutional policies/procedures. Practices appropriate initiation and maintenance of sponge, needle and miscellaneous item counts and equipment according to policy. Decontaminates, cleans, and cares for operating room equipment utilizing clean/sterile technique used in a procedural setting. Identifies, gathers, and prepares instrument and equipment and specialty items for all procedures in a timely manner according to preference card. Acknowledges physiologic needs for the patient (size of equipment, maintenance of body temperature and patient safety). Demonstrates and maintains competency as an expert in 3 or more specialties/service lines (e.g., Thoracic, Ortho, Spine, ENT). May require on call duty. Performs other duties as assigned.

Additionally, the Surgery Technician II acts as a preceptor to other staff and students. May assist in development of educational programs. Serves as a resource for staff in specialty area.
