Job description

Description

As a Surgery Scheduler, float, you will be responsible for patient scheduling, admissions, and therapeutic procedures: obtaining insurance authorizations, answer, screen and respond to incoming calls, prepare all documentation, charts, encountering and other information needed for physician clinics, schedule patient needed appointments, x-rays, surgery, and tests. Prepare all necessary documents and forward to appropriate departments including insurance authorizations, charge documents and reconciliations and disability and worker's compensation forms. Explain charges to patients and assist patients with billing questions, communicated directly with department billing and Physician Support Services. Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, nursing units and other UCLA departments. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports, as needed. Responsibilities also include providing support in appointment scheduling, pre-registration, patient reception, cash collection and other related duties. The AAIII will travel and work at department clinics throughout the community as assigned by the supervisor for coverage. Other duties, as assigned.

Salary Range: $29.42 - $42.14 Hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of OB/GYN procedures and terminology
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of third party insurances, government programs and other insurance agencies for purposes of assigning financial class codes and obtaining any necessary authorizations
  • Ability to research medical diagnosis and procedure codes in CPT Code book and ICD-10_CM code book
  • Demonstrated computer skills including word-processing, use of spreadsheets and data entry
  • Ability to understand and correctly use technical terminology, correctly identify and extract data from hospital records, enter data on flow sheets or in computer and maintain study records

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Skill and experience in composing clear and understandable written memos and reports using correct grammar
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and accurate manner
  • Skill in communicating with patients, families and referring physicians with diplomacy
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, residents, research associates, fellows, students and staff, as well as outside granting agencies
  • Superior typing skills to prepare correspondence, reports and other written materials with speed and accuracy
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and assignments, pressures of deadlines, and/or a heavy workload
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel to department clinics, as assigned

Strongly Preferred:
  • Knowledge of University's Electronic Medical Record System
  • Knowledge of UCLA School of Medicine and hospital nursing processes
  • Fluent in Spanish
