Job summary

Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel, IL is seeking a Surgical Registered Nurse to support all areas of the unit, including Central Supply, Recovery, and Same Day Surgery. You will apply the nursing process to assess patients of all ages, develop and implement plans of care, educate patients preoperatively, and discharge them postoperatively.

The role requires strong airway and IV management, comfort with chest tubes, catheter care, and familiarity with operating room equipment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed and current registration as a professional nurse in Illinois.
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification.
  • Clinical experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong nursing practice skills including physical assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in Central Supply, Recovery, Major and Minor surgery areas and Same Day Surgery.
  • Assess patients using the nursing process and develop and implement care plans.
  • Educate patients preoperatively and discharge instructions postoperatively.
  • Manage airway, chest drainage, catheters, IV lines and access to OR equipment.
  • Contribute to Quality Improvement, chart updates and daily charges.

Job description

  • Pay or shift range: $28 USD to $35 USD
    The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
Description

The Surgical RN has responsibilities to perform duties in all areas of the unit: Central Supply, Recovery Room, Major and Minor surgery areas, as well as Same Day Surgery. Using the nursing process, each patient is assessed, and a plan of care developed and implemented for patients of all ages, including infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Also acts as educator preoperatively when discussing case with patient and postoperatively when giving discharge instructions. The Surgery RN is responsible for management of airway (O2, ET tube and suctioning techniques), chest drainage tubes, catheters (urethral, suprapubic, and 3-way irrigation), IV lines, central lines, administration of blood and blood products, and suction equipment. Other knowledge includes monitoring laparoscopic, orthopedic, arthroscopic, and general surgical equipment. The OR nurse participates in Quality Improvement, Quality Control, narcotic counts, submission of daily charges and statistics, updates chart, reviews test results and understands significance.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed and current registration as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification.
  • Clinical experience preferred but not required.
  • Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills.
  • Proof of current coronary care or intensive care training.
  • May be required to work any day of the week including holidays and weekends.
  • Great deal of walking, lifting, stooping, bending and pushing.
