Job summary

Wabash General Hospital is seeking a registered nurse to perform comprehensive nursing assessments on admission and provide care across multiple systems. The role includes pre/post procedural duties, IV therapy, airway management, and patient/family education.

Documentation in the EMR and adherence to quality processes are required. The position requires IL RN licensure, CPR certification, and strong nursing process knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Illinois RN license required; new graduate must sit for boards and obtain IL licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong nursing practice skills with thorough patient assessment and care planning.
  • Evidence-based nursing care and documentation in EMR Flowsheet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing assessment on admission across neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, GI and GU systems.
  • Care for pre/post procedural patients, including Recovery Room duties after hours.
  • Administer IV therapy and manage airways (O2, ET tubes, suctioning, vents).
  • Manage drains or tubes and related procedures; perform lab tests/specimens.
  • Document thoroughly in the Electronic Medical Record Flowsheet; participate in quality control and narcotic counts.

Job Details

The nurse performs a nursing assessment on admission including neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary parameters. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to care of the pre and post procedural/surgical patient (Recovery Room after hours), IV therapy, external pacing, management of airways (O2 therapy, ET tubes, tracheostomy management, NT/ET suctioning, vents, and chest tubes. Other duties are management of patient with drains or tubes (feeding, lavage, PEG), catheters (urethral, suprapubic, 3-way irrigation), those requiring laboratory tests or specimens, administration of blood and blood products, and preparation of patient for transfer to another unit or hospital. The MCU nurse is responsible for patient/family teaching, participating in Quality control, narcotic counts, checking physician orders, reviewing previous test results, and understands significance. Maintains complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record Flowsheet.

Schedule/Shift
  • May be required to work any day of the week, including holidays and weekends.
  • 7:00 pm - 7:30 am
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensed and current registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois. New graduate must sit for boards and submit for IL licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Clinical experience preferred but not required
  • Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills
